Storytelling is deeply ingrained in each and every one of us. In the earliest times, our ancestors used gesture, growling sounds, and rudimentary mimicry to warn each other of predators, to recall heroic hunts, and mourn their losses. Ancient stories may have lacked the kind of language and the technological means we have today, but they carried the same emotional resonance that drew individuals closer.

From this primordial floor, storytelling evolved, morphed and reinvented itself, and so, it stayed relevant to changing times. Physically, we still have the same bones and brain, fight the same hunger and fears. It is the story we tell of ourselves that evolved, becoming a sophisticated, well-crafted and shareable narrative that allows us to build and rebuild from it. Fire was not just discovered, it was taught, because teaching is storytelling. Religion, science, culture; none of these were things, at first. They were stories that survived long enough to become things.
Today we use pixels, algorithms and radio waves to reach each other with the same primal narratives. The story stays, the medium goes. If your story cannot be retold or fit into the latest medium, it dies.
This meta-story, a story about stories, is built upon the notion that the human aspect of storytelling remains as crucial today as it was around ancient firesides. By contemplating its evolution across millennia, from pre-linguistic tribalisms to digital-age marketing campaigns, we see that storytelling's essence is still what forges connections, passes on knowledge, and shapes cultures.

Today, in an age of instant communication and technological attention-seeking, Storytelling as a Service has become a necessity. Civilisation itself is the collective retelling of an evolving story. We did not progress by invention alone, but because someone told the story well enough for the next person to build from it. The last thing to die is never the people. It is never the place. The last thing to die is the story. And if the story is told well enough, it never dies at all. This is why storytelling is not optional, it is survival. It always was. Because the story of what was is all that still is.
